- Canada’s 16 major convention centres offer some 2 million square feet of rentable function space of which 62% is exhibition space, 23% is meeting space and 15% is ballroom space. Between 2004 and 2006, average building occupancy increased by 11%.
- Our 16 members collectively host some 7,000 meetings, conventions, exhibitions and related events per year. 56% of these are meetings, 9% are conventions, 5% trade or consumer shows and 30% are banquet social or special events.
- The overall economic impact resulting from events taking place in our 16 centres each year is estimated to be in excess of $2 billion. Our members directly employ 2560 full and part time staff, and this has increased by 15% between 2004 and 2006.
- In addition to economic and employment benefits, our members also promote education and professional development, support trade and investment initiatives, create showcases for local products and services and enhance the business profile of their respective destinations.
